How to prepare for a house move (checklist before packing)
Updated 17 September 2026

How to prepare for a house move is mostly unglamorous admin and a clear path for the truck. Do this before you start packing and moving day stays on the hours we quoted.
Checklist before packing
- Lock the date. Send the estimate. No deposit. Book a month ahead and take $50 off.
- Tell the building: lift booked, loading dock, moving-day rules.
- Leave a park for a 28 m³ truck as close to the door as you can. Note tight streets and steep drives.
- Redirect mail. Book internet and power at the new place from moving day.
- Measure sofas and beds against the new doorways if you already know they are tight.
- Set aside a “do not pack” pile: passports, medication, chargers, kids’ bags, kettle, toilet paper.
- Tell us about pianos, marble, gym gear, statues and fish tanks.
The week before
Finish or book packing. Use the right way to pack, or tick packing on the estimate and we do the whole house, one room, or the leftover. Empty and dry the fridge. Use or give away open food — we do not move food or open liquids.
The night before
- Take beds apart if you can. We still bring the tools.
- Disconnect the gas bottle from the BBQ. We cannot put LPG on the truck.
- Clear hallways. Stack boxes in rooms, labelled on two sides and the top.
- Confirm parking and the lift window.
At the other end, prepare the new house before you move in so we are not waiting on keys or a dead fridge. Call 0467 017 141 if access changes.
